2:49 pm - idle wishing
|
I wish I had a database & software so that I could say, "I have xxx yards of www-weight yarn, I'm size sss, what can I make with it?" For instance, if I had 1200 yards of worsted-weight yarn, it might say "You can do a heavily-cabled vest, a cropped pullover in seed stitch, or a standard pullover with three-quarter sleeves in plain stockinette. You can do three hats, one tote bag 12"x9"x3", or a garter-stitch scarf 12"x60". " (Of course I made up these numbers, if I knew what to do with 1000 yards of worsted weight yarn I would probably not be posting this!) Even better, if it had info on specific patterns.
Oh well, back to the belated Yule presents (to be named later in case any of the recipients stumble in here) for Sunday. :)

2:05 pm - drama, drama, drama
|
Weird. Someone on knitting announced that she was starting a new community, middle_knitters. Someone, I believe it was kitchenwitch, commented "hey, why don't you just hang out in advanced_knit?" Drama ensued. Oh boy did it. kitchenwitch taking a major role. Now, as you can probably see from the way her name shows up here, kitchenwitch's journal has been deleted, presumably by kitchenwitch herself. Okay, her prerogative. Except that she is (was) the sole moderator of advanced_knit, which was a pretty good community, and now is dead in the water because there's nobody to approve posts. Sigh. I guess the constructive thing to do would be to start a similar community after a few days... but... I don't wanna have to approve all those posts....

10:14 pm - Fingerless gloves
|
|
Not sure why, but I went off to make fingerless gloves (or rather, open-fingered gloves) from the latest Interweave Knits. In worsted weight, they go pretty fast and they are not as tough as I always thought. Lots of ends to weave in, though, since each finger is its own length of yarn.

3:16 pm - Oh, um, hi.
|
Hey, look at that, I never posted anything after I got back from that trip. Oops.
I'm all done with Sonnet, except for (yuck yuck yuck) stitching on the last sleeve and crocheting around the edge. And putting on the buttons. I'm putting all this off because I'm now convinced it will look all baggy and dumpy on me; from the trying-on I've done, the neck is rather too big for my narrow delicate (snort) shoulders.
On the other hand, I am going back to (indoor) rock climbing soon...
Moving on to a scarf in "thistledown" colored Jamieson Spindrift, i.e. Shetland jumper wool. 2x2 ribs with a panel of "S-hitch" cable from Elsebath Lavold's first book. It's quite nice but kind...of...slow...going.... perhaps I'll get going on a sweater to use the Nanook yarn I bought at Artfiber about six weeks ago.

12:13 am - all righty!

Finished my Ren Shawl, except for the blocking. Now, shall I virtuously go to bed, or shall I swatch for the Sonnet? Duh.

Crocheting off all these little edge stitches is tiresome.

3:05 pm - Where I'm at, knitwise
|
Soooo close to done with the Renaissance Shawl by Not Just Plain Jane Knits. One day I was in the yarn store, and a chilly employee was wearing the example of this from the trunk show, and it looked stunning. Importantly, she was in the 18-35 demographic with me, so I figured there would be a chance that I could wear it without looking crotchety before my time. We'll see. The yarn I am doing it in is a delight to knit, and gorgeous in colour. (It's Canadian yarn, so it gets a "u" in "colour.") Here's the yarn: Apple Laine Silk/Wool Fingering and here's the colourway: Blueberry . Not sure if this is a Hip Young Colourway. We'll see.
Unfinished projects, far too many to mention. I'll mention them as I pick them up.
Next project - lemminglemminglemming - Knitty's Sonnet in rust-colored Lopi. I confess, part of the reason I'm knitting this is that Kristi looks really cute in hers. Hope mine comes out cute instead of baggy.
I bought the Lopi at the new knitting store in Arlington, MA: The Knitting Room . There's actual breathing room in their shop, which is nice compared to the overstuffed shops I'm more used to. They stay open until 7pm, which is a big win. They have an interesting mix of fancy Filatura and Berroco yarns, snuggly Brown Sheep and Lopi, lots of Scandinavian yarns too. I want to support them as they get their act together. One problem: they don't have a lot of balls of any one color, I think they ordered a bag of each color for the most part.
I'm thinking of buying some of the gorgeous handpaint yarn from Over the Rainbow Yarns on eBay, maybe for knitty's BPT sweater. As if I don't have a room full of yarn already... Perhaps I'll wait until after I finish the Sonnet.

3:04 pm - Hello world

I like reading knitting blogs. I like seeing people's projects. Perhaps others will like to read and see mine. That's all.
